no gates is fine, renault is the same just packaged differently! Errr, get a genuine one, try lookers chester but the parts will prob be shut on a sunday! no, 13,, spanner or ratchet, 10MM spanner, 16mm spanner / ratchet!! usual rule is at the longest stretch you should just be able to twist...

No problem with a gates kit pal, there ok, As said, new aux belt is about £12 from renault, and a ten minute job!

You have never put an alternator on a 172 have you?! lol!! There ok'ish, aux belt is the worst bit, if you have no tool to do the tensioner its hard work!

£175.57 for a recon unit from renault. new renault unit, £385! there all plus vat, lol!! Good old renault!

Howdy! Yep sounds like the alt! Worrying thing is it was only replaced last year, by us on the 15 / 4 / 08, had done 39K. Thats the second renault alternator we have replaced that as lasted no time at all! They must be crap, there reconditioned units, as brand new ones from renault are £300...

People mock then, but gaz's was a good motor, run way over stock power and never had any mechanical issues apart from a clutch go, but that could happy to anything!!!
