If you want to lower the 172 60mm then coilovers is your only option. 40mm springs with OE dampers result in a crashy as f**k ride, god only knows what 60mm will be like.
Unlucky mate, it could have been worse, you could have been in the middle. I hope you get it sorted, rear end shunts are so annoying as there are so avoidable.

Look there Clarkie, the product is called the Unichip which you can buy and get it fitted elsewhere but there is only one Dastek in Fife.
From what I gather, I think you want to get the Cab. As I mentioned, I would go for the 106 but it sounds as if you have your heart set on the Cab.
If it feels good, do it.
disclaimer - badinvincible cannot be held responsible for third parties "doing it" because it "feels good."
Ive also hummed and hawed about this and the one Im going for is the Dastek Unichip. Its remapped to every individual car, unlike generic chips like Superchips and its 20 minutes down the road.
If GDI were (a lot) closer, I would go for them. You seem to have the budget to take your pick.
I got bumpstrips and handles colourcoded, dent on door and massive scratch on bumper done for about £400. Phone about mate or you could try it yourself.
