Well technically there are. HDMI 1.0 to 1.3 1.3 being the best supporting all fronts of HD signals.

^Or just right click on the speaker icon (near the clock) and go to Playback devices and set the HDMI as the default (if its there as an option)

HDMI does carry audio.... The laptop hardware may not have the ability to carry the video and audio via HDMI so a separate audio source may be needed.
