Hi Ian-
welcome-
Looking at the budget there 2.5k isnt sufficient to bring home a 'great' 172 ( other than a mint phase 1)-
If your looking for a late 172 PH2 03 or 53 especially in black or blue sub say 60k miles you will need the thick end of 3k, possibly up to 3.4k-
at 3.5k you can...
& vice versa how can you say the williams & 172 cups the best when you havent owned the other 8 in the range???
I think you read what you want to read as every other poster including me has corrected you on what I wrote-.....
best of luck with your 172 track car -- still slower than the 200...
if money no object & for fun 200 cup-
'value for money'probably the trophy'

I didnt slate the williams as Ive never had one although from my encounters with them they wasnt that quick-
The vee is quickest in acceleration in terms of straight line speed although the cornering esp the ph1 isnt that great-
Whether there are driver aids helping or not there is a...
Fast isnt always fun- but fastest navigating through b -roads must be best...??? as opposed to fastest in a straight line...
Fastest cornering speed must = highest fun ??....

Its interesting how some the comments on here pertain to ownership of that individual car-
I have a lovely stretch of road near me- running from bluewater up to the dartford bridge, over the M2 & along what can best be desrcibed as a race track up to Erith-
It has 2 perfect sweeping...
as above these items 99.9% dont exist- he probably uses the likes of Ebay / P>heads etc to tout goods with any old picture plucked from google-
Then hopes people pay on PAYPAL gift----
Easy money for imaginary goods-
How many times have MINT trendlines come up for £350
Answer = ZERO
