Sod that if it's still under warranty and this sounds like an engine problem take it in. Most likely they'll diagnose the problem and if it's not warranty realted you still know what needs fixed ;)
A mayo like gunk on the inside is quite common on the 1.2 due to there often stop/start nature and poor sealing.
If the cars given a good blast on a m/way it should clear it up nicely.
