ive not had this problem fella, but the best thing to do is take them out, dry them out again, and seal them at the back, with black electricians tape or something like that.

tell insurance company about any mods!!! 16's wont throw out the speedo, 17 will they did on my old clio. but you'll be fine with 16's. definatley lower it if you get wheels on, about 40mm - 60mm.
