No I'm not enjoying it at all. Very stressful as the engine from the silver one is the good runner with a new cam belt and Dephaser but as it was left outside in the rain for two weeks the whole engine has started to corrode. The engine from the blue one has 30,000 less miles and is much better...
My word what have I got myself in to!
That's the engine out of the silver one but so much more work to do!
Engine ready to lift out of the blue one too now!
The silver car has just had a Cam Belt and Dephaser and the Blue one has a Dephaser rattle and needs a Dogbone bush. Just thought it would be cheaper for me to swap engines rather than get the belt and Dephaser done in the blue one. My long term plan will be to build a nice engine out of the...
I now have a spare complete 172 engine that I am considering building up into something a little better than standard and swapping them out.
Just using bolt on parts is there a guide or list of parts to give me an idea of what to use and price?
It will be running ITB's so thinking Cams would...
Come on people, this is a big job for me so I need lots of praise and encouragement! Lol
Got the engine out today all on my own which I a proud of. I will have to take more care with the other one but at least I have an idea what I need to do now.
A bit of ITB p**n for you too:
Jenvey wanted £75 to cut some holes in a filter box so I will give it a go myself as they have sent a template:
I went for a 50mm deep box and 65mm filter so should be fine with the 90mm trumpets.
There is a loading bay in the same unit that is begging for a 2 post ramp! Maybe one day.
It's continent to do some jobs at home despite not having the best working environment. With these two cars being a major project and not a 5 min job I thought it would be easier to do it inside and spend...
Agreed. Took me ages to work that out and even took it to a garage to try and squeeze the new bush inside and they couldn't work it out. I think that same photo above is what made me realise. I bushed bashed it to bits until it came out!
Got one offer on them for £300 less than I bought them for last month so decided now to. I got the Blue Cup cheap and am going to swap the engines over and all my other new bits and maybe put the ITB's on at the same time as the engine swap. Watch this space.
I am thinking of doing the same but as it will still be a road car too I will have the numberplate removable so I can take it off easily when ion track.
Indeed but also comparable to other cars run on the same dyno on the same day. So called 400bhp Focuses were not making much more so to me it was a good sign and I was more than happy with the way it drove no matter what power it had. Plus it was 284 bhp at the wheels as I go by that in the...
If it was just for an everyday car I would go for a 182 Full Fat. You will get a decent one of those in your budget.
Service history regarding cam belt and dephaser is essential. Its a £500 job to pay someone to do it so take this into account.
