    172 Cup Turbo Conversion

I’ve had my Cup low boosted with the ED kit for what seems like years. Maybe 4/5 now. The AEM piggy back ECU developed a fault at some point, so needed replacing although ED were helpful. It also needed an uprated clutch after 10k as the standard one which had covered 100k+ had given up at that...

Thanks Ian. Well worth a look if only for peace of mind. Even if they look ok get some Waxoyl in there to help protect it.

Thank you! Just the look I was going for. Thanks mate, couldn’t be happier with it it! I took it to Rusthall Coachworks. Really good customer service and the quality of work is brilliant

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

The car is back from the paint shop, and I have sills again! exciting times. It's also just passed it's MOT with no advisories so super happy with that. Spent today giving it a clean after taking it out properly yesterday for the first time since August. Drives brilliantly with the fresh...

    Exclusive 172 - 172 Cup, Future Classic?

Clean, OEM, low mileage 1*2’s of any variant will fetch good money in ‘the future’, but the amount you’ll spend just to keep it working, serviced, looked after etc... it’s just not worth worrying about IMO.

    £10k 172

Cup tax is a real thing. It will sell eventually, and when it does CS will move on to the next “overly priced” car, completely forgetting this one of course. Rinse and repeat.

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Thanks Graham, just confirming what I thought. It matches the wings more closely than the doors which is odd. They are going to do the doors too, and what I’ll be left with (hopefully) is immaculate paint on pretty much 80% of the car.

    Failed Brembo brackets

If you do, will you be doing 280mm adapters? From what I’ve read here, not many do them, but I’m running 280mm setup currently.

    Failed Brembo brackets

Totally agree. Not happy with them. Car won’t be moving much between now and next summer so plenty of time to fix. Will follow this thread

    Failed Brembo brackets

Only just discovered this thread. Mine was just surface corrosion. I have caked them in copper grease to try and remedy the issue but will have to keep an eye on them for sure. Must be from the same supplier as OP’s?

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Pictures of the progress so far. Bit of a weird one, but anyone had issues with the doors and rear quarter not matching well after spraying? Rather than being an issue with the colour, is this just 16 year old never been machine polished paint vs brand new paint? Overall really happy with the...

    Clio thread!

What’s the thought process behind turning such a clean example into a track car? You’ve devalued it by thousands IMO.

Not the most exciting of updates, but car goes in tomorrow for rust repair. Spent the weekend getting the car ready, removing rear door cards, side skirts etc. Also fitted rear 10mm spacers - loving the way the car sits now. Hoping the sills haven’t gone completely but we will see. Either...

September has been a good month for the Cup. - Complete Cup Suspension refresh - Brembo’s refurbished and back on car - MTEC drilled and grooved discs + Brembo pads - Stud conversion with 10mm PMS spacers - New Cup alternator from RPD Also found the source of the power drain. EPAS conversion...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

This was for my own safety more than anything else. I jacked the car up from the subframe which is where the car is actually being supported from.

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Little update on the car at the moment. Recently gave it some fresh oil to mark almost a year since this car has had the old engine fitted. During that time it’s had a new alternator and starter motor. The 2118’s have gone to free up cash for some improvements, the first being fresh Cup shocks...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Rather than create a new thread, just thought I would ask on here. Have tried to search but have no luck. Fitted a new alternator but the battery keeps running flat, suggesting that it’s actually the battery that’s had it or there is a power drain somewhere. What’s the best way of ruling one...

    Aw motorworks.

Alex originally boosted my 172 cup a few years ago when he worked at ED. Just picked my cup up from him this weekend (now that he’s AW Motorworks) and he’s fixed a lot of issues on my new Cup. Rough idle, diagnosed as being mistimed engine. Now runs like an entirely different car. Brilliant...

Moving to a Mac/macbook.. anyone made the jump?

I’m a Graphic Designer / Web Dev by profession and had only ever used Mac before starting at my current place where I now have a decent spec desktop PC. Have to say I was anti-PC but have kinda grown used to it. I find myself almost preferring it for designing in InDesign, Photoshop, editing...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Updates on the car as it is at the moment - boost is back! here's a little step by step of it all coming together again in the new shell. I've learn't a heck of a lot doing the majority of this work myself although I did have help with the wiring back in etc. Still to do are brembos back on...

    Carbon splitters

I actually contacted KTEC last week about this. Apparently they are planning on re-stocking the carbon splitters in gloss finish but I wasn't given a date as to when that will be.

Car looks fantastic Kyle. Loving the engine bay. I’m hoping to fire mine up for the first time in 5 months next weekend. All being well we should meet up before end of October and get some photos!

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

I haven't been on here in sooo long. Where do I start. The boosted Cup is no more. A slight mishap on a corner saw to that. We'll leave it at that. The good news is that I'm building another boosted cup using the old parts. Anyone able to advise on oil coolers. Should I get an 82 degree...

What wheel with 280mm disc, brembo 4 pot set up?

Hi mate, I'm currently running Cup turinis (ET 38.5) with 10mm spacers and using Brembo 4 pots from a Meg with 280mm discs. I use my ET37 2118's in the summer and they need at least 10mm to clear. Even then the calliper sits incredibly close to the inside of the wheel, so much so that I had to...

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

From the top of my head not including things like tyres, servicing etc but including tax, fuel and insurance it’s working out at roughly £360 a month. The majority of which is fuel. That’s probably small change to some of the ballers on here but not to me lol

    Chris's 172 Cup Turbo

Thanks to @Mbeau for the Cup subframe. Collected Thursday, fitted today. The swap was painless enough (although as you can see it wasn't me doing most of the work.) Glad to have had a ramp to work off of! It's now got powerflexed wishbone and anti roll bar bushes as a bonus. Car isn't in a great...
