Mine will only do it when the car is freezing, below 0. Literally after 15 seconds it won't whine again no matter how hard I push the steering.

Lol. I guess its nothing to be worrying about then? It didn't do it this morning, only seems to do it when its like minus weather outside.

30 MPG seems a tad low considering you where motorway driving and hooning it. I get 32 MPG and mines over fueling. Has it had its belts done? If you aint sure, it really needs it doing. If a belt slips / snaps it will cause devastating damage. Get it done by a specialist as not many people...
