I’d go genuine Renault for all. Renault parts direct have great prices. Also aftermarket timing tools like to bend/fail so better getting genuine. You can always buy the tools and sell them on for not much less than you pay for them new

Removed the battery tray from the relocated battery today, glad I did as I had been tempted to keep it but will relocate back into the engine bay. If you look closely it was held in with 4 self tapper screws 🙄 the car that keeps on giving aye! As frustrating as this project is being im so glad...

No worries, worth doing ARP rod bolts too.

As you’ll have the head off I’d fit a Megane 225 headgasket which is what mine is getting when it goes back together. Standard gasket is 0.65mm and the Megane one is 1.30mm so should lower CR a bit. Apart from that for low boost it should be okay.

Not much of an update really. Got the engine stripped down checked measured and ready to go back together once I get some bits. It’s largely pretty good, will just get treated to some new big end bearings and leave the rest alone as it’s within spec. Subframe is now off, all the bushes need...

I removed some rod bolts on a 172 engine yesterday and used a 1/4 drive 6 sided 11mm

5PK847 belt with cup setup, so you’re just running the crank water pump and alternator. I’m doing this and others too with no issue

Are you using genuine gaskets or aftermarket? I used after market once and it leaked, replaced with genuine and its been fine

In the end it was my own error, I hadn’t clipped the 02 sensor wiring to the subframe. Subsequently it melted and shorted the plug on the down pipe blowing the fuse.

😂 I think driving Porsche’s for a living is what does it nothing else ever comes close

Funnily enough I want to go the other way and trade in my f56 Cooper S for a 140/240i next year as I find the mini dull.
