I would drill the subframe and fit it if I were you. The top gearbox mounts are quite brittle and you’ll end up snapping it if it’s taking all the weight of the gearbox, especially under load.
Good luck, whatever you decide.

Motorsport companies normally respond better with a deadline. If you tell them you have a test day booked that it needs to be ready for you may see a bit more urgency. Otherwise all their customers with race cars who need something done before the next race meeting will be jumping in front of...
Yes that’s what I need.
I hate fishing but there is a really big fishing shop within walking distance of me so I’ll have to go and get some.

Yeh, it’s all logical stuff really. Just a case of being thorough and methodical.
Ideally I’ll be able to do all my set up at home but ultimately that’s going to involve the purchase of some corner weight scales.
I’ve started to write a step by step guide for myself so I don’t ever forget...
Right, finally preparation for the 1st race of the season is under way. Very happy to have solved the electrical issues so I can concentrate on driving the car now.
There's still lots of set up and configuration to do with the ECU and dash but that can come over time.
Over the weekend I made a...
No reason for a 182 to be easier that I can think of. In fact the easiest one would probably be a 172 Cup, non ABS but I’m not sure you’ll get the box back enough without at least dropping the subframe a bit.
Getting in there to undo the cover plate, not to mention aligning the new clutch will...
As you’re on here can I ask you, do you know how many trigger points the speed sensor in the gearbox has? Assuming it’s an inductive sensor (Which I’m pretty sure it is)
Trying to configure wheel speed in the Emerald!

Cable was re-crimped (properly) and all good. I have also since discovered that the Cartek isolator had a bad earth which in honesty I think was more of a contributing factor. So, now that's fixed, new HT leads fitted and the car is starting on the button as it should.
Just submitted my entry...
Yes it was crimped but the particular terminal I used there had quite thick walls and the crimper needed a bit more pressure.

Definitely frustrating.
The wiring has been a learning curve and still one that I'm on!
My only hope is that I'll solve it by process of elimination but time is ticking to the first race. I'm thinking it might be a last minute entry if I make it at all.
The car was running nicely when it was...
Right; had a bit of a rollercoaster of a few days before the weekend.
With less than 24 hours to go before the test day I still did not have the dash working with the ECU which was slowing down getting the rest of the items on the list ticked off.
Anyway, Thursday evening I finally received an...
Sparco do the flattest ones I’ve found.
About £35. Really need a seat that mounts underneath rather than side mount to keep them as low as possible but either way will work.

Dave if you post a message on the Facebook page there are quite a few Renault breakers that I’m sure will be able to supply you with one. Albeit not new obviously.

This weekend has been all about assembly and wiring. With the test day on Friday it's essential I get the car to a point where it starts and runs as soon as possible so I know I'm not wasting my time on the smaller jobs before it goes onto the trailer.
Starting with the EPAS controller and ECU...
Had a hectic week trying to get the car ready with a long list to get through.
Started with some easy stuff, making up a few brackets and fitting the Cartek isolator.
First up was a mount for the steering wheel connection plug
The isolator couldn't be easier to install. Far easier than...
Sounds like they’ve not used a UV resistant lacquer.
I would try talking to them about it as it’s obviously not something that would show straight away anyway.
If you remove a wheel does the back still look more white? That may be the way you’ll need to demonstrate to them that this has...
There are 2 earths on the gearbox. One large one under the wheel arch already mentioned and then also one on a bolt above the diff housing beside the speed sensor (if you have a JC5-129 gearbox) Which is attached to the engine loom.
Have you checked the white connector under the fuse and relay holders under the bonnet. Notoriously prone to corrosion especially if the car has been sitting.
Secondly and probably oviously have you checked the earth straps on the gearbox?
If it ran before you removed the gearbox it must be...
