Canon 1100D? My missus was in the same boat as you about 6 months ago. She loves it and has really developed with it now. I dont know much about them but I think its a fairly easy camera to progress with as you get IS & Auto - Focussing stuff when you start but as you progress can stop flying...

My Acer has Windows 8. I can press a button though and all the annoying 'tablet' logos disappear and I have a normal WIndows 7 home screen. Is that on all of the Windows 8 laptops? I just use the tiles as shortcuts to websites now.
