I find VGA 720p FAR better than 720p component (on all of my previous TVs, I haven't tried it on the Panasonic yet, but suspect it will be the same). I think I'm going to go down the d) route.

nope, it is setup as widescreen, there are many more resolutions to select but it won't do 1920 x 1080.

I got the Panasonic one you've listed. It's £1000 from Tesco with 1 year's warranty. It was listed in the Panasonic shop for £1200 but I got it for £1100 with 5 years warranty, Panasonic are getting ready to release the new models so there are deals to be had if you are quick enough.
