This was my thinking! I read so much about people getting the wrong lengths with pattern parts and having knocking issues. Especially for ph1s as it sounds like they changed every dimension a tiny amount just to make sure the ph2 parts wouldnt quite work right!
Having such a headache with the...
oh wow, thanks for the heads up, i hadnt considered at at all! this is an engine dynamics one, didnt say anywhere that it wouldnt work with the standard clutch but will check.
Drivesaft refurb was £250 - quite steep considering the price of pattern parts but was all proper Renault components used.
Got some new toys!!
Vernier cam pulleys
Lightened flywheel
Lightweight crank aux pulley
lightweight water pump pulley
PMS breather plate
the list goes on - it was not a cheap order in total.
the build is always the most fun part!
Having the silly desire not to leave my subframe outside in...
Not really an update, just a photo dump
Also had my driveshafts rebuilt by Peter Withers, not sure if he uses the forum or what his name is on here but hit him up on facebook if you're looking for a refresh.
And my efforts to convince my dad to sell his vintage bike for more room has...
Dropped the subframe in situe - wasnt the easiest job as the was is basically up against the wall of the garage - left the hubs and brakes in situe. Need to actually work out how to get hte car our of the garage in this state... will be interesting.
Stripping the old paint off the subframe - i...
Someone threw it in when i bought some KTEC ITBs off them, IIRC they mentioned it was a Tessa one at the time. I was going to just get the PMS one when i get around to placing a big order.
And yeh, so far I've gone for, sump not leaking, leave it on. My only fear is when I had to drill out 5...
Also Also - (i wish you could edit posts) - has anyone seen a breather like this before? I has a completely flat bottom, no machined chanels what so ever, i assume this is part of a larger assembly? It also has no residual evidence of the channels in the rocker cover. I've basically just used it...
Finally to close, here's a fun thing I've learned, early ph1s don't actually have a keyway in the crank sprocket. I am told that this is because they use a forged crank of another renault but dont know for sure. Annoylingly i had thrown my original one away (or into the rusty scrap metal pile)...
Quite update, firstly i need to back track because i missed a little update, i got some doorcards.
Are the pockets straight, not really, do i care? not really.
Engine head is all stripped and packaged up to send for some porting and polishing
Have been painting basically everything at the...
Thanks, I have some blue coolant hoses to go in which im worried are going to clash now. I might have to reinvest in some black ones just to balance out the amount of colour i have!
I know this has been discussed a lot in other threads but they rarely seem that conclusive.
I am looking to understand the best Cat Cam part number to suit the following build:
Uprated valve springs
Standard internals
non-VVT
I know people suggest getting 5502421 but these are VVT cams...
Yes Sir!!
Ended up having to drill 5 of the f*****s out! Does anyone know of an aftermarket upgrade that will avoid this issue in the future? I guess i dont ever plan on taking the head back off.
Head is now back at my flat in London, next job is to strip it down and send it off for some headwork! Will be stripping the head down myself as soon as the valve spring compressor arrives.
Main driver for this is that I bought 422 cams (non-VVT) that will require uprated valve springs so...
Update time! So, as for the work done so far i have only a few open items:
Strange clunk when pushing the brake pedal hard (https://cliosport.net/threads/what-could-this-be-brake-pedal-clunk.853157/)
Need to have someone look as i press to check for a pad jumping
Might just put a new master...
Trying to take the head off, first two bolts came off with some encouragement, but the third has managed to sheer most of the head of the torq head bolt clean off leaving a nub that you can't really get purchase on. Tried another bolt and it has started doing the same thing.
Anyone has this...
Ahh gotcha, i assumed that is what you meant. It is only the second bang that is relevant, the first is just the bucket seat flexing a little.
I do still have the servo, though it is not connected to anything at the moment as the engine is not in the car (I've just blocked it off). But good...
No sliders as they are brembos, but i might try and take the pads out and add some lubricant anywhere there is movement. They were newly refurbed recently.
How would the seal in the master cylinder flip over?
Should be bled properly, spent a long time putting fluid through. Pedal is not...
Any ideas what this could be? It's started happening during my rebuild and no idea where to start with it. It seems to happen once after being left a while then not again. Pressing the pedal (while stationary with no servo connected) there is a loud bang and the pedal jolts.
Note that the...
I put those stickers on back in 2012 when it was still cool. Not sure if they'll stay.
I'm still toying between a clean look or a bit of livery. Given that I will use it on the road it might be best not draw too much attention to myself with loud graphics.
Little update - I've been away quite a lot over the begining of summer so progress has been a little slow.
I've also grew very bad at taking pictures, so im just throwing this together.
Made a little dash insert with the new gauges and some sheet plastic. It's a little rough around the...
They've offered to let me return them and replace for a length of my chosing... trying to work out if i can be bothered to take them off and work out the correct length.
Good to know, ive reached out to them to see what they say, but it sounds like they are just overlength and this isnt a mistake on my order.
Still got some time before the builds finished so I might change them for some better fitting ones if they offer a refund.
tell a lie, looks like i actually bouth the BRT ones:
http://brtmotorsport.co.uk/collections/braided-brake-hose-kits/products/clio-172-182-ap-brembo-brake-hose-kit
My plan was to set up the cams as you normally would in a cambelt change, get the car running and idling and handing it over to engine dynamics to finish the job.
Also using the OEM tensioner.
Is there a way to edit the body of a thread once its been posted that I'm missing? I can't see it.
Anyway, I wanted to add that there has been some discussion around which valve springs to use, some saying the catcam ones are too aggressive and the 197 valve springs are actually more suitable...
Afternoon all! I did have a quick search on this topic but I didn't find anything concrete (and within the last few years).
So after realising that the cams I have to go in my engine build are not compatible with the standard valve springs I have resigned to the idea of removing the hard from...
