Unless the car has adjustable top mounts and/or camber bolts fitted there is no adjustment for anything other than front toe.
A “better” place won’t be able to adjust camber or caster either.
Stock airbox in a 172 P2 is a trapezoidal-shaped box with a paper panel filter inside. If it doesn't look like this then it's probably an aftermarket intake. The stock box is good.
Both cars are mine. The car on the left is a 172 ESP with dealer-fitted electric Webasto sunroof. The one on the right is a 172 non-ESP.
We don't really do "reps" here in Australia, probably because Clios are uncommon and it's not like you can pick parts up easily or cheap from a...
The only thing better than a black 172 is... two black 172s.
Black is not a colour, it's a lifestyle choice. 😂
EDIT forgot the location: Australia (one in Sydney, one in Brisbane).
Damn, I just changed the top mounts on my Aussie 172 non-ESP and got the new top hats. Ended up using the old ones, but just ordered the new type of nuts. Hope they are correct...
Learn how to change the engine and gearbox oils yourself, it's not hard and will save you heaps of money. The schedule is for engine oil is every 6 months or 10,000 km. Buy the oil when it's on sale -- Penrite 5W40 full synthetic -- and the cheapest place for the filter and sump plug gasket is...
What part of Oz? Have you signed up to the OzRS forum yet?
As far as mods go, these were close to 100% tuned straight out of the factory. There is little that can be done cheaply to get more power out of them (a CPU flash won't liberate more hp like a turbo car, unless it'a accompanied with...
This is what a tyre looks like after it's had some heat in it -- the whole tread should be soft and gooey from outside to inside! (This is the front left tyre on a clockwise circuit.)
Work out whether the noise is related to road speed or engine speed.
Drive so you can hear the sound, then put the car in neutral, let the clutch out and let the engine idle. Does the sound change? Does it change when the clutch is in? Does it change with road speed?
If it changes with road...
I'm still loving this. :)
I saw my first ever 172 Cup at a track meet (Lakeside, QLD) a few weeks ago. I'm in Australia and the Cups never came here. A crafty Pom managed to bring one in as a rally/race car. Hey Gary if you're reading!
PS Can you teach your brother to rev-match on down-shifts...
Don't just move the wires under the seat: disconnect them, spray both with contact cleaner, connect and disconnect them several times to get the contacts really clean, the re-connect them firmly and position the socket so it doesn't hang. Do the wires under both the driver and passenger seats.
I bought powerflex bolts about a year ago and fitted them last week, had wheels aligned, then needed to take them off to change strut top mounts. While putting one side back on the nut stripped. Only used torque wrench at 120 Nm. Have had to pull them out ang get alignment redone. Not happy.
Funny thing is, apart from the hesitation off idle, the car is averaging about 7 litres per 100 km fuel consumption (ie, really good) and drivers very nicely. On track this car hits ~150 km/h at the end of the straight at Queensland Raceway, compared to ~160 in my other 172.
I suspect that most...
My 172 has exactly the same idle problem, belts were changed 12 months ago by a "specialist" (was first thing I had done to it, cost me almost 2x the purchase price of the car). I have since changed plugs, injectors, leads, coil pack, crank sensor, speedo sensor, cleaned throttle body. Still...
