All depends on how confident you are and your abilities. But for all the bits would probably cost less than half of an independent garage would charge for the same job
You'd struggle to prove to kwik fit that they missed it due to the mot being an inspection of the vehicles condition at that moment in time and doesn't actually mean anything once you've driven it out of their forecourt.
It depends how bad the rest of the exhaust system is. If the rest of the exhaust system is pretty rusty then personally I'd replace the system in one go just to get it over and done with.
But a sun strip isn't moveable like a sun visor so I don't know where you'd stand. All I know is that's the law on windscreens which we follow at work when carrying out pre-mot inspections.
The law on windscreens is no chip or obstruction in zone a ( the area of windscreen directly in front of the windscreen and the is just slightly wider than the steering wheel) greater than 10mm. Or 40mm collectively in zone b ( the rest of the windscreen that is swept by the windscreen wipers)...
Im guessing you want the fault diagnosed and rectified rather than just diagnosing? Personally I'd take it to a main dealer or a specialist for diagnostic work.
Just give them a call. You get to explain what you want throughly, ask any questions you have and for them to be clear on what you require all within 10minutes.
