Makes perfect sense.. you can pick an engine up for as little as £200.. belts are going to cost you circa £500 thats 2 engines maybe 3 if your lucky even one of those engines could last 10k miles you can never tell..

Could be the steering rack itself.. I had something similar on my old 172 turned out to be the mounting bushes on the rack
