I have no problems with it at all on Windows 7. In car driving is between 30-50 FPS and the graphics all look good to me at 1920x1200.
Running an ATI 4870 1GB card with an i5 running stock speed.
Have you installed the latest patches? They really improve performance.
Constructive criticism...
I would steer clear of ISO1600. Long exposures give noise anyway, and ISO1600 on the D40 is also pushing it (IMHO).
The exposure is not balanced, you have blown out the lights, and have hardly any surroundings exposed. Avoid shooting into bright light directly...
Not at the minute, no. The writer of Blackra1n has said that he might work on it, but does not seem to be doing much at the minute. People slating him and being generally unappreciative of everything he has done so far is not much of an incentive... so I think he just wants to put across a big...
Snow/ winter tyres are your best bet. You would be amazed at the difference that they make. I have blasted through really deep snow just with winter tyres with a fair amount of grip, and only needed to use chains once when I lived in the Alps, and that was to get through an avalanche.

I had exactly the same issue with a belkin router. I spent ages on forums and google but could not find a way to solve it. In the end I took it back to the shop and got a second one to try but that had the same issue. I swapped for a Cisco/ Linksys router and the problem was solved.
By internet, you don't mean downloading I take it? I have to use N or else I can't make full use of my bandwidth. Just browsing would not make an ounce of difference though, I agree.
The landscapes are a bit hazy and have lost some contrast but you could bring that back easily enough in Photoshop or Lightroom. I had to google Dumbarton Rock, it looks like a nice part of the world.
Your car is definitely a contender for the dirty car comp!!
Depends on the camera. Most tripods and heads have a weight rating. Make sure that the head and legs can both support the weight of the body and lenses combined.
I was recently looking around and settled for Manfrotto 055PROB legs and a 804RC2 head. It is solid enough for my 40D/5D and can be...
50D high ISO is not that much better than the 40 from what I have seen.
If you have some cash saved, you can always buy a pricey second hand one and sell it off again when you get back. If you buy well, it shouldn't cost you a penny.
Do you use 17mm much? Although 24mm is only a few mm...
Looks nice and clean.
You'll look back one day and think "WTF was I doing?". But as long as you are happy now, it doesn't really matter. Its not permanent either so no harm done.
