if the battery is fully drained a jump start some times is not enought to start the car. get a new battery wacked on it, that would be my first point of call

Just get a new gearbox Phalem, only way to re-coup some money would be breaking it. As you've stated you don't want to do that. just fix it

Small update:
Cambelt has been done :) and had a couple of days off work so set about doing odd jobs on the clio. finaly got round to sorting the head unit after driving about with wires hanging off.
luckily for me the original loom was still there :)

Update - managed to find the missing blocks for the head unit :) car is now in the garage for its cambelt change. Crunching quite bad in 3rd on the gearbox now though. Better get it changed sooner rather then later!

hmmm and will it display with just the manin blocks plugged in? (mine didn't) i quess ill have to go hunting behind the dash for the missing blocks, something I didn't want to do!
it is a proper pikey site, i used to work in the body shop (seperate company from the scrappy) the polish guy was putting a car up beside it and just nudged it off lol
that skyline was at my local scrappy few months back, they have massive steel girders with support bars, 4 cars high, little polish bloke drives around in a forklift and picks waht you want down. had a polo fall off the top behind me once. s**t my self

managed to get hold of a standerd head unit (thanks wokka) so set about changing over the aftermarket one :)
Before:
The headunit didn't come with any radio keys, so pikey spec tools were involved
After removing the headunit blue wires started appearing...
