A painful update my £200 ex alternator is no good the
terminals are the wrong way round in that the live to the
battery touch's the air con pipe not good! I called my dealer
who checked with Reno and they say any problems with
fitting ex units you must buy new? They list two part
numbers...
Just an update on price's all are including VAT
Alternator £200.30 exchange
Aux belt kit including the tensioner £128
Aux belt £20.65
Tensioner on it's own £179.45 work that one out?
Parts arrive tomorrow so I should be back on the
road tomorrow night if all goes well?
As a side note now...
Hi Greg when you say change it as a kit. What does that in tail?
I mean in the kit. I've made my mind up too change the belt,
alternator and tensioner any thing else I've missed? O I forgot
to say any idea of the cost main dealer that is..
Colin..
I am a plank and you where right. One problem I've broken
the tensioner now what I mean is I've broke the 3/8" square
hole too much pressure I guess. Used a pry bar after that to
move it one plus though I'm pretty sure it is the alternator.
Anyone got any idea how much an alt and Aux belt is...
Still think it's the Alternator bearings gone I've tried
the screwdriver against my ear and that seems to be
where the noise is loudest? Anyone have any thoughts.
Cheers
Colin...
Hi all me again! My 172 has started making
a horrible noise from the engine bay area.
The only way I can describe it is it's the same
sort of noise a knackered clutch release bearing
would make but it's not that. Seems to be coming
from the top front area of the engine looking
from under...
As I said above Fred the N/S lower as an
example jumped from £21 to £30 plus VAT
that's some increase 33% approx. Shame I've
not got a ph2 as the bog bone seems far more
palatable than the £93ish with the increase for
a ph1. Hay Ho that's life?
Colin.....
Just thought I'd let you all know that
Renault have increased the price of
172 engine mounts in a big way as an
example 6000073662 dog bone mount
has gone from £76.21 to over £90 plus
VAT, 7700795688 the N/S lower £21.93
up to £30.68 plus VAT I've heard of
inflation but that's taking the...
Thanks for all your help and
advice. Job done just waiting
for the level to settle after a
quick blat up the road. I took
your suggestions and used type
D coolant so I've now got fresh
aliens blood running through my
cooling system.
Cheers
Colin....
Sorry just one more the Renault D type coolant
is that ready mixed or neat? And why does it seem
everyone use's this rather than a good quality anti-
freeze?
Cheers Colin...
Hi all, I've decided to drain my cooling system
and refill it with fresh anti freeze and water and
wanted to know a couple of things. Does the rad
have a drain plug? Or is it easier taking the bottom
hose off, I'm also changing the top up bottle on the
bulkhead. When it comes to refilling...
I only have access from the engine bay,
With regard holding it with a 13-mm
from underneth the battery tray theirs
little or no access? Thanks in advance.
Colin...
I've been getting the dreaded knock under hard
acceleration , So I bit the bullet and bought a
couple of engine mounts O/S Front by the cam
belts. And the gearbox plug under the battery
O/S easy peasy gearbox plug not so easy.As
when I try and undo the centre bolt through to
the box all...
Thanks for all your replies, As a
side note I always thought the lower
the first number i.e. 0W-5W meant the
thinner the oil was when it's cold so the
easier it gets around the engine when
first starting?
Cheers Colin..
P.S. Happy Christmas:D
As above I was wondering if there any problems
using Mobil 1 0-40W in a 172 as Castrol recommends
the edge 0-30W. Yet Mobil 1 exceeds all manufactures
requirements of engine Oil. Any thoughts please.
Cheers Colin.....
Cable costs £23 ish including vat genuine. But trust me unless
you have access to a ramp it is a b*****d to change I know I
changed mine about two weeks ago. But I do think £96 is a bit
strong.
