Finally!!! some decent pics of my car

I used to have an MK1 XR2 but had to sell it on to buy my MK2 16V Golf. I had loads of fun with the Fiesta and was sad to see it go. Yours must be one the rare few still on the go and agin in cracking condition. Handling in these was a bit scary in the wet though and understeered like the...

    2 172’s vs Cup...

Teady, like the photograph, pitty you couldnt move the sun for a bit! Like the location too, was that near Crail/St Andrews direction by any chance? We need to do a repeat of this shoot, but next time I will bring my camera along. Neil

    172 lower on drivers side!

Hi Arjun, You could apply some will power and have a NO PIES week! All the pies that you dont eat, you can put in a bag and position them in the passenger footwell. At some point you will reach an equilibrium ... reduced 0-60 time but problem solved! LOL What difference in height are we...

    Weak front shocks.....

Agree with Ben. 110K is a high mileage for any original suspension. Shocks normally go off the boil after about 30K or less if lowered/driven hard. once that happens all the other moving bits suffer due to reduced control and damping. Neil

Yep, Im sure we can arrange something. At the moment my car is off the road awaiting insurance to register the reg plate. Im sure Gibbo would be interested too. Met Teady before on the first Scottish meet.

    Braking Problem

Clutching at straws now ..... if its not brakes it can only be related to suspension, ie. different springs either side on front, worn bushes or problems with torsion bars at the rear? But surely if it was this the car would handle like a dog in heat! Neil

    MK2 172 HEADLAMP

Sh*t luck. Cant you try and seal a smaller diameter tube onto a vacuum cleaner hose and suck the wee begger out through the main bulb hole or sumit?

    Oil Service

Ooops, forgot about that... Reno supplied a washer that had a rubber ring bonded on both sides. Also the sump plug has a strange square internal unlike other past Clios Ive had which were normally an internal hex. Dealer didnt have socket in stock so I actually ended up squished a lump of...

    Oil Service

Reth, I changed my oil and filter at 1500 miles (oil was well black). That first early change in my mind is the important one when the oil is likely to have a higher than normal amount of metal particles due to running in. Intend on changing oil/filter every 3K miles up to first official Reno...

Norfolk-172: The K&N was the first mod I did. So heard it on its own merit so to speak. Tootling around town you hardly know its there. Start using the power over the magic 4K mark and it all gets pretty manic! ..... but a nice sort of manic. Since fitting the Magnex, cant really pick its noise...

    Braking Problem

OK, probably the first thing to check (if you havent already) is the rear brake cylinders and drum/shoe adjustment on the rear. Perhaps the passenger rear is part or completely seized? Also check the handbrake cable and mechanism is free and working as this is integrated in the mechanics of the...

    Braking Problem

How about a fault in the brake master cylinder / servo since thats the device that applies pressure and distributes the fluid through the system. Could be a scored barrel or faulty seals? I presume you are not loosing any brake fluid? Your last post makes me think it is rear brake related...

    Torque ......

Hi Ben, top man (y) ....knew you would have the answer! My torque wrench is calibrated in ft-lb. Am I right assuming that 1 daN.M = 7.4 ft-lb? Threfore we are talking about 15 ft-lb for the top mounts? Cheers and thanks, Neil

    magnex - strange bangs

I get a slight knocking noise from mine during acceleration when the system has heated up, but no banging. Well done Renault!

Afraid in some dealers they do look upon courtesy cars as being a good sales inticement. When I was diving my past 2.6 Audi estate and later Coupe S2, I never ever got a base model. 172 Front Passenger Seat

IanH, I found I could easily recreate the noise whilst stationary if you dunted the back of your seat with your hand. Also chattering noise always disappeared when a passenger sat in the seat. My driver seat makes the same noise when tested, but obviously never a problem unless youre a back seat...
