    Hushing the ktec ’stealth’ exhaust

I’d replace the cat with a silencer lol the issue with droning could probably be addressed with some tuning to the sound but this would need some good r&d which costs too much. When the consumers only want to spend £300 options are limited. Probably the other easy way when purchasing is to not...

Stud / Nut Vs Wheel Bolts

Yeah but as with anything, as you wash the car stuff washes off so do a maintenance wipe over with acf-50 at the end. Moving to a wheel shampoo for less aggressive dirt may help too.

    DS1.11 overheating

I bed my brakes. Let them cool and then go through the process again just to be sure. If theres no cooling or you are running wheel arch liners your brakes will get seriously hot. The standard disc size does not have a high enough heat capacity to dissipate the heat of a long session without...

Stud / Nut Vs Wheel Bolts

You certainly need to check stud kits more regularly but they should not come out under normal circumstances. Use a permanent loctite.

    Hushing the ktec ’stealth’ exhaust

I'm surprised anyone sells a single silenced exhaust for a high revving 16v. Its simply too loud for normal use. Sounds epic at full chat but the last one I used people could hear me from over a mile away going full bore through the countryside. If you are welding one in get it as close to the...

    PBS brake pads

The rears dont do a lot but they dont do nothing :D Thats down to where the weight is when braking and how much weight transfer there is. For a road car just slap on some Motrio rear pads and you'll be fine.

    PBS brake pads

If you have a bias valve on track then you can probably use a standard pad and increase braking. People like me certainly dont so I use race pads on the back to maximise rear friction and brake balance. If you think rear pads are valueless then £70 is going to be too much despite being cheap for...

What springs with cup shocks ?

I didnt test the Cooksports to develop the Grams but I bought a 182 a year ago which happened to have Cooksports so I had a little nosy as I stripped it all off.

Exige S2 2zz race car vs MR2 2zz track car

You can see the exige is better on the brakes into the first corner with a shorter braking time. Certainly looks more stable on the corners too so both could be down to the suspension control of the better dampers

    Saving another 172.

Thanks! The kids get a bigger bowl of gruel tonight! Coilovers are on their way already. I've emailed you about the brake hoses as theres a bit of a delay on those but we have alternatives...

What springs with cup shocks ?

I do not. I cannot see them being majorly different to compared to the other lowering springs on the market due to having to work with the OEM dampers. Certainly the measurements I took when I removed a set from my Clio did not show up any surprises. Most manufacturers do not like giving away...

BC DS spring rates advice for track please!?

not without replacing the damper inserts anyway - thats £100 each roughly. I run my Clio on what would be a 9kg spring at full weight. It could go a little stiffer but I'm not sure at Brands it was necessary. If you are stripping the chassis I dont think the car needs more than that unless...

What springs with cup shocks ?

If someone can send me a front and rear Clio 182 spring I can get them tested and tell you lol It would not surprise if they were effectively the same - the basic chassis was the same weight as the 182 Cup. The advantage was the improved damping vs a regular twin tube.

Clio 182 track day car project - advice please!

If you dont want to take a wheel off then turn the steering to full lock. You can lay down and reach behind the alloy and measure the height (centre to centre) of the two bolts that hold the damper to the hub I do seats as well as side mounts. For subframes I would get a set of Jon Foz Subframes.

I sell the BC Racing range (I run KAM Racing) https://www.kamracing.co.uk/car-tuning/renault/renault-clio-mk2/suspension/renault-clio-mk2-bc-racing-dr-series-coilovers-172-182-renaultsport-inc-172-cup.html

Clio 182 track day car project - advice please!

Set a budget for each part. Theres always better. The BC DS series is a good solution for suspension £900. you get the adjustable top mounts in with the package. I can help supply. I run a relatively basic car (its not stripped or running a cage) but run Winmax W6 front pads and W4 rears (they...

What springs with cup shocks ?

Eibach Prokits are what I generally supply to my customers. I think they lower the RS models 5-10mm which is hardly noticable unless you have two cars sitting next to each other.

What springs with cup shocks ?

There are none. I have a set of Trophy springs I'm tempted to send off, measured and get remanufactured though I dont know whether the 172 cup springs would be more popular. As far as I know the 182 cup and Trophy springs were the same spring rate (from previous posts) I doubt there was a ride...

What springs with cup shocks ?

The Bilstein are about twice as stiff on the front and about the same on the rear. What the Bilstein has though is massively superior damping so it does not feel twice as stiff. k.

    Clio 172

Theres no benefit to a larger throttle body size unless the engine is limited by air at max rpm. The only thing it does on most cars is give a larger flow of air for less throttle movement. This makes it seem faster as its not as progressive its not really helping anything. I cannot see the...

What springs with cup shocks ?

Sportlines sit higher and have a softer initial spring rate so allow more roll when cornering. Cooksports and Grams are the same rideheight. Doesnt solve anything compared to the other brands The issue really is the dampers as the springs are all designed to work with a damper valved for road use.
  23. Kev@KAM

What springs with cup shocks ?

The other issue with standard type springs is ride height. As you increase spring poundage the ride height will increase unless the overall spring height is reduced to compensate. The chassis weight is unable to compress the spring as much. This is also apparent when you strip your car as you...

What springs with cup shocks ?

Being honest our Grams springs are not really designed to be a trackday spring. Theres a compromise with spring stiffness when you know everyone is going to use standard cup dampers with them. With a shorter spring you can make them progressive so they are stiffer as they compress nearer the...

    Lightweight track car

Dont focus too much on weight initially. You can be one of the fastest Clio's on track with some good brakes and suspension and driving it properly. I would get a 172 cup if I was getting a standard car just for track. Things like a single exhaust and the lighter glass, lack of abs etc will all...

Renault Laguna BTCC Super Touring Track Car Project

This will test my flaky memory but I think the later cars were all Xtrac 406. Early cars before development went mental used the Hewland HP2000 and used standard engine positioning. I used to have a few of those due to a silly moment where money and stupid aspirations peaked. Never did build a...
