ET38 17s, 205/40s, -30mm on H&R. No Scrubbing with 4 lads in the car. Sorted
There is 1.2 16V (Phase II Clio 2) near me on 18s. He dropped it 60mm with no probs. Dunno about the offset though
I seem to remember the only problem with relocating the air filter is that invariably you have to increase the length of the intake piping/hose. This is like trying to breath air through a long straw for the engine and can give worse effects than a shorted pipe and heat shield.
Hey guys,
I would like to get my 172 rolling roaded. I live in Herts but can travel. Does anyone know of a reputable place that can do this for me? (fairly local)
In Redline this month there are a load of facts about Renault (somewhere near the begining of the issue). One of these facts is that:
"..contrary to believe a Clio 172 doesnt have 172bhp...it just doesnt!"
What do they mean by this? I know that 172 is measured at the flywheel but this is the...
I got a reduction of 270 for my 172 from Elephant by putting my Mum on the insurance!! I am 22 with 2 years no claims and I got cover for £916 fully comp! The original quote was £1185 before I put her on.!!
Only prob with Tescos is they have terrible customer service in the event of a claim...
I have heard that the Cat usually takes up to 10% efficiency out fo performance so in theory 10% more power. (unlikely though!!) Id say about 10bhp? You might get problems with the Lambda sensors though. Someone put a post on recently about their lambda sensor light coming on becasuse theyd...
Sorry I didnt arrive guys, my hangover prohibited consciousness before 11am by which point I felt in no state to go driving!!! Will try to get to the next one.
I didnt notice any change at all in the acceleration of my car when I put 17s on. It surely has to be a tiny percentage. Lose half a stone in weight and it will probably even out to exactly what it was!!!
Have had a similar problem with mine. The service book (for my import) stated that a service was required at 20K however I missed this. By the time I hear that UK cars are serviced every 12000miles (i.e.22K for my car) I had passed this point too!! Doh. Dont got no warranty now...
Fastest car I have been in must be my freinds MR2 Turbo. Not the fastest car in the world but I havent been in that many. Before that (and my 172) it was my Mums Cavalier SRI (which was a lovely car). That really went. Then again I was only 17 when I was driving that about!!
Yup it was the fuel cut off switch!! something called an inertia switch that cut off the power to the fuel pump when I disconnected the battery. All it took was for me to press it back in again and hey presto the car started.
That took us 12 hours to work out though!
**HELP**
Disconnected the battery whilst fitting my car stereo yesterday. When all was finished went to start the car and there is no sound from the fuel pump!! (the electric whining noise you get as you set the key to the second position). It would appear to be the immobiliser however this...
Willy weighs 100Kg more than a Renault 5? That quite a lot then really. 80Kg is 12 stone...
I really like Renault 5s. If I had loads of morey I would buy a standard one and kit it up a treat!! (not that its been done before hehehe!!). I saw one in my local for £650. 77k, good condition, no...
I noticed virtually no difference in acceleration at all. On cornering in wet/dry weather the car has improved dramatically due to width of the tyre and it doesnt wheel spin as much as the original 15s. You are only increasing the diameter of the wheel by about 20mm (if you were runnning 195/50...
My mate bought an MR2 turbo a couple of months ago and within a few weeks of driving it he had written off a badger down some country lanes! Hit it at about 60mph and it ripped his bumper to shreds.....
Really pleased with the 172. I had a Clio 1.2 16V before hand and new that they rattled like a b*****d. My 172 has an orchestra of rattles, fizzes and rumblings but it looks great and gives me a buzz to drive it!!
If/when I eventually sell it I would probably be interested in a Williams 3...
I am running 205/40 R17 TOYOS Proxes TS-1. I have just filled them to the same level as my original 15s which is 2.3Bar(34psi) at the front and 2.1Bar(31psi) at the rear. If this is wrong for 17s someone please let me know as there is no guide anywhere!!
I love my 172 but have scared myself in it on a number of occasions!! Think I am gonna concentrate on having the thing running like a beauty and looking flawless instead of more modifications.
Or you can simply tell the garage doing the MOT to put on the old cat/replace the bypass pipe before and after the MOT. It is likely to fail without a cat but some engines are naturally cleaner than others so you might get away with it?

Simon, how does the car drive now with the De-Cat? I was contemplating a de-cat pipe/system or a straight through powerflow system from the manifold (mates uncle can blag the MOT bit for me!)- Is it a good way to get appreciable power gains? (heard that 10% engine efficiency lost in the cat)
I dropped mine 30mm all round on H&R springs because it was too high on 17s. Its about 10-15mm lower than a normal Mk1 172 now. Not massive but looks a whole bunch better!!!
Took my car to the garage today and fully expected that the waterpump was on its way out (Big expensive job if youve got no warranty left!!). As it turned out my fanbelt had caught on something and pulled a pulley (!) loose. Looks like its only going to cost me £100 - 150 as opposed to £600ish...
My first car was MG Metro!!! It was green with MG in Red writing (at least another 35bhp in red decals ya know...) It was a straight 1.3L with 4 gears and hit 60 in about 15 seconds Yippee Kaiyay!!! - Mods included - Fluffy dice, Magic Tree Air freshner, Sparco harness pads on standard seat...
