Not much to report, and I suppose that’s a good thing. I’ve been driving her around quite a bit, enjoying the summer since switching her oil to 10W-40, and again, there’s nothing noteworthy to mention.
A slight change in my personal life: after 41 years in the motortrade, I’ve finally decided...
Have you driven a Clio with these tyres before?
I’m relatively late to the Clio Sport scene and haven’t tried them yet. After experimenting with various tyres on my 182, I’ve realised how sensitive the car is to the wrong tyre choice.
It would seem they only stopped producing certain sizes as they offered the PS3 instead. They even do them in 205/55/R16 now 🤔
Clearly enough demand in the classic car market.
Now if only I had a spare £400 🤔
Are you confusing a zinc primer with BH Electrox? BH Electrox, requires direct contact with bare steel for its zinc to work effectively, but Hydrate-80 creates a barrier that prevents this. A generic zinc primer applied over Hydrate-80 bonds well and provides additional protection. I’ve used BH...
If your cars stationary it’ll soon heat up, especially with these temps. The temp gauge on these rarely moves from the centre unless there’s a real problem.
It never took long for my Clio track cars to heat up and the fans to kick in when sat on the drive. On track they were fine due to...
Over-tightening the studs can stretch and weaken them, so if you think that’s happened, it’s best to replace them, though I guess only you'd really know that for sure. Spray some brake cleaner into the hub to remove any crap. Then, apply some Loctite to the studs and tighten them to around 20...
Such a shame - you were just getting the hang of the car! I do miss mine now, but I’m heading down a different road. Otherwise, I’d be throwing three grand at you like it’s confetti at a wedding. 🤣😝
I have a spare update tuner list which I recently took out my 182. I lost the stickers unfortunately when I de-gunked the fascia. Works perfectly. Open to offers.
Note* If you want to keep the stickers from yours, the fascia’s are easily swapped.
I have the iCarsoft CR V2.0. Mine came bundled with six car manufacturers and set me back £99. It’s gotten me out of trouble many times with my old Clio, even though I still have no idea what I’m doing. It can read pretty much all the modules, including the steering angle sensor reset and live...
It’s possible I guess, but I’m not familiar with any garages who do both. On the couple of occasions I had mine done, the garage did the timing, then arranged with the tuner - about an hour away - to map it the same day.
Shaftec are more money but they're essentially a refurbished genuine part.
You want R396L which replaces 8200372167.
You can get them easily enough, but sounds like your garage couldn’t be arsed. A common theme with these old cars.
You should be able to pick them up online, but DMFX in...
My first track cars engine was stock with Group N timing and EFi map, a few other small upgrades but essentially stock. My last car had an engine dynamics race build, ITBs, Gen 90 (226 bhp). I wouldn’t bother putting ITBs on a stock engine. It’ll sound nice, but that’s about it.
I‘d only put...
Happy to chip in.
Keeping the engine standard, they respond really well with the right supporting mods, is the way to go. Group N timing and a custom map at EFI will make a noticeable difference without compromising reliability. You'll be able to stretch its legs on longer straights without...
Has the screen been replaced at any point that you know of?
My old 182 CUP track car had the bonnet put through the screen, and Autoglass couldn't get me a factory replacement.
If you’re in for a couple of grand, then I’m definitely in for ten times that. It’s good to see these cars getting sorted, though it’s not easy given the scarcity of some parts.
Reducing the fluid level generally works well, and Redline power steering fluid is excellent. You can find it here: Redline Power Steering Fluid.
Currently on offer.
There’s a guide on how to change the power steering fluid as well here: ClioSport Guide.
