Have you tried movng the engine while getting someone underneath to look from below. My dogbone was tight but there was a bolt slightly adjacent to it that was slightly loose and knocked when accelerating. Does the gearstick move on/off throttle?

I have a rubber on mine and my previous ones and have never had a problem. Both came with a rubber that sits inbetween the jet and the bonnet. I'd imagine that would raise it up a tad.
