They dont need rebuilding anywhere often as people think. They are alot harder wearing than std boxes....
Mine is 3 years old, been in a race car for that time, stripped twice a year for inspection, and ONLY ever had 2nd/3rd dog ring needing replacing which cost £76.
As for labour costs...
50/50 is ideal especially in summer, but you really want to know what pump type it is, as some will fail after a while.
cheaper just to run it on red tbh...
not really, as when they are out of the car they are inherently empty of oil...
if someone asked for the weight of an engine, I would assume WITHOUT fluids..

They werent testing for failures of engine components now were they! Come on!

For the record, "it comes with the territory" unfortunately. These things will always happen.
I think this engine is std internally plus ITB's, and maybe a couple other goodies, so no wonder a rod bolt failed on an over-rev....
The ampage required to create enough penetration on that thickness steel to give any extra shear strength, could possibly distort the final fixture?
I wouldnt bother personally. Its been done without welding, and without problems.

Its the retaining plates whih are different, as far as im aware the diff itself is the same.
The plates can be retro-fitted by drilling/tapping the casing to accept them.
I woulsnt be cutting seats back to increase piston:valve clearance---counter productive really.
I would either: not bother skimming it by such an ammount as the gains are going to be negligable anyway; back the lift at tdc off; or relieve pockets on piston crowns to give the desired clearance...
