Is it completley empty? If it was a leaky washer jet (which is very common) it will empty the bottle to about 2 thirds down and still have some in the bottom.
Check the map sensor pipe, what mat black said, the sensor is on the bulkheak and has a little black vacume pipe running from it. Check that for splits. When the engine moves on its mounts it allows air in through the split and casue jolts and loss of power like you said.
The UCH recieves the central locking signal and the Ring around the barrel recieves the Imobiliser code from the key to start the car.
I cant remember if the ariel for the key is inside the uch or a sperate wire coming out of it.
Its probably the D4f, with the ECU on the back of the engine. The little square ECU cover rubs on the loom and causes open circuits. Dissconnect the battery, Take the cover off and dissconnect both connectors. Repair any loom which looks rotten or broken with the same thickness wire.

If its a 1.5 dci, it will be the EGR vlave blocked. Heres my guide on how to clean it.
