I managed to bag a pair of new sills not long back, so I just went all in on Saturday. Feck it. Didn't look THAT rusty but the jack point was bad and it's damaged at the back (been like that since I bought it in 2002!)
All in for the win.
Nasty
Got stuck into the inner sill...
Just had a few days off work but ended up getting tangled up in non-Renault-9 things until late Friday, overall for a 1986 car (35 years old) it's not bloody bad you know. Far better than the 21.
...but not completely rot free :D
I decided to drop off the rear shocks and investigate the...
I've decided to take a sabbatical from the 21 for a bit while I wait for some things to happen, so I put it in the corner and dragged the 9 to the work area to go on the rotisserie
I emptied out all the spares I had stashed inside the car so everything doesnt get tumble dried when I spin...
Gutted man, I was going to bring the RS250 and the Vee this year just to be a showy offy prick
I wonder if the 21 might be in a state to make an appearance at the next one in '22.
Showing my age here.
I got an Atari 520STFM for Xmas 1988, I was 11. I saved up my paper round money and upgraded it to 1040 spec (1mb RAM)
I still have it, it still works though I did replace the floppy drive a few years ago. I occasionally boot it up and play Xenon 2, Volfied, Arkanoid 2...
Liner seats are in fab condition - these are prone to corrosion if the engine is run without the right antifreeze. Bear in mind this is 34 years old!
Liners in - good old socket tower liner clamps lol
I really wanted to get the engine built over the break..but...sigh.
I resolved the piston issue, had my local machine shop fit them... 2 new 2 old pistons with the all new rings.
I ordered new mains & big ends off the web, the big ends arrived but the mains didnt and were due, according to...
When you root out the rust, clean it up then coat it with Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80, then Bonda rust primer, then paint and then Gravitex underseal. If you apply the gravitex with an air gun you get a good thick coat with a nice finish.
Well. I went to build the engine this weekend and it didn't go well.
I gave the block a good cleaning out, then looked to prep the crank to go back in. It didn't need a grind, so I got out the new bearings and checked clearences. The mains put the brakes on at the first hurdle though, as the...
Based on my ownership of well over a hundred various Renault's over the last 24 years, the general approach I take is mileage driven. I have never had a belt fail and in fact i've never even taken one off that looks close to failure.
Always change the belts on purchase unless there is...
I bought a Renault 9 Turbo back in the day, the old boy had every scrap of paper ever associated with the car, and a diary of every single time he put fuel in it. Mileage, litres, cost etc all in a tiny little hand book spanning about fifty thousand miles.
Sadly the floor had rotted out and...
I'd rent a newer one, then just sit it on the limiter all the way there and back. Cos thats what everyone does with rental hacks anyway lol.
I found a load more parts here, Spanish site, the assholes wont reply to me though https://www.repuestosclassic.es/products_new.php
That has been a genuine consideration - she rumbled what I was up to straight away haha, she's still game for it though! I also considered flying out, buying a whole R9 and filling it with bits and driving it home haha
Yes. And yes. Vee thread here.

Mk3 Clio 197 Turbo (Meglio) - easy to find parts 1/10.
Clio V6 - hard to find parts 7/10. Took me 18 months to find a fog light surround.
Renault 21 Quadra - very hard to find parts...
Engine has been back and sat in my living room for a couple of weeks, so last weekend I threw some paint at it. Seems in decent condition given the age, and that it was sat for 15 years (with coolant in), particularly the liner seats which are absolutely mint. Really shows how much difference it...
Ooooh tools!
I bought one of these. Very useful.

This warms my cockles in the cold winters, and to be fair doesnt condensate too badly

Apparently the orbisound is super loud so watch out for that one. Keep an eye out for a Jansport, they really got it bang on, though i've only seen two for sale since 2015 so if one does come up, grab it fast!
New rear discs and pads too. Spoiling it this month! Old rear pads had some odd wear, the pad material was attached too high up the pad....strange!
Much better. 300mm vented discs on the back of these things.
And took it for a weekend away :) - yes, I put normie plates back on....for now!
Busted AC pipe fixed. Had to nab a PAD fitting of a povvo spec Mk2 Clio - PAD fittings are not standardised it seems and even the Mk3 Clio is different! The Mk2 pipe was the same fitting but bigger diameter pipe, which fortunately sleeved over the Vee one. Now fitted and seems OK. Of course the...
All I can tell you is that it was engine or gearbox related, as it stopped when I did the Meglio conversion on it. Other than that I can't be any more specific, sorry! It never caused any issues other than being a noise that was there though.
