Ive done it before on my old manifold, seemed to get the exhaust out quicker - it seemed to pop a lot more once the system was really hot. Its really best for curvy long 4:1 manifolds rather than the tight/twisted $:2:1 on the 16v but I dont know how bad other Clios are. The reason why I say...
Chris I am thinking I might well need your help mate, Ive tried most of those scrappies, just not the Basildon one.
Ben Ive sourced the bits I need but that engine was definitely no F7 I dont think. The black box was more like a lunch box than a coil pack!
Scooby Ill look out for you if Im...
well I think youre all just about there. I thought I was being thick not being able to figure it out. All I know is that Ive used nitrous loads and when I use it on the road its perfectly safe, not a chance of any problems. Even if I decided to go mental and arm the system then floor it from...
Great answers! That makes more sense now. So in other words then, the Willy pistons have more clearance than the 16v ones to allow for the extra stroke. So the Willy cam is the one to look for.
Good good good Ive got some ideas now. Budget has had to come right down so Ill have to keep it simple. The only reason I was thinking of forged pistons was cos I dont want to crack them again! Anyway Renault reckon £78+VAT each new Willy piston so thats £370 straight off. They want something...

Good call Kev, I dont know whether the pics of my stage 1 mods are still on the gallery, but I bloody hope not, those corner splitters and sunstrip are a national disgrace! Id hope its a bit more of a subtle look Ive got now, but maybe Im wrong.
The other night at the Strawberry Field I saw...
Thanks Ben - 2.1 is definitely out the window then, so the question is, is the benefit of 32mm valves worth the extra time/expense of new guides, new valves, cutting the seats etc? All things being equal what is the difference between the 32 and 30mm-valve heads? They would both have 150hp but...

Well thats what Im worried about Ben...I dont know whether the lift of the cam is to fit the design of the head or of the bottom end. So what Im saying is this, lets assume you could use the 1.8 head with a whole range of bottom ends, a 2.0, a 3.0 and a 4.0. The bigger the capacity the more lift...

Cheers for the answers guys! So in other words, the megane head is pretty much the same as mine except with bigger valves and the standard cam is roughly the same as my 270s. So I might as well use my existing worked-on head.
And if I read it right, for my 2.0 bottom and 1.8 head, I *will* be...
So the backing off would lean the mixture and the inlet valve would open up again when the burn hadnt finished. Normally this would be no problem but because of the highly volatile mix coming down the manifold the whole thing blew?
Anyway, the diagnosis is complete - 4 cracked pistons, the...
OK cheers Ben, that sounds like good advice. The throttle body thing is a definite plan but its a big step to do the whole lot in one go as well as rebuilding the engine. The TB conversion was always something I thought of doing in my spare time, something I wouldnt mind having a crack at myself...
Cheers Simon, thats the kind of advice Im looking for. Well anyway BB have had the head and sump off today and theres good news and bad news. The good news is that its not the head gasket. :)The bad news is that instead of the head gasket blowing, Ive cracked all four pistons.:( The rest of the...

Ben - thats if I get a loan mate...otherwise I can barely afford the head-gasket!
Ben, Kathys right, after a while so-called sarcasm just gets to be tiresome when its trying to take the piss the whole time, droning on about the same thing. Thats not sarcasm, its just worthless, boring comment...

Well Ive found a place selling the new Megane 2.0 turbo lumps already...about 90 just come over from France apparently direct from the Renault test bench. £900 + VAT - and yes, that includes the turbo. Dont know about the ECU or anything though.
So the question is, how would we get one to fit...
yeah it was a bit of a bang. Ive changed my mind about the way forward anyway. If the engine is in real bad shape (it was a *big* bang) once they get the head off and have a look, the plan is:
1.8 HP Stage 2 head with Piper 270s swapped for wilder 285 duration road/rally cams
2.0 F7R bottom...
Yeah I was in a big hurry, went to 3 different fast fit places to get those wheels of mine balanced and rebalanced. Only at the 4th did they realise that the screw head was sticking out.
