Bill - the forum is only one aspect of the club, not the whole thing. My personal approach to it is that the forum is primarily a way for people to talk about stuff in between meets when they cant see each other face to face. Its a way to arrange meets without having to sign up for email lists...
Dash I reckon its the Southend coppers mate. I remember a few months ago I was zooming in along that lovely bit of straight road from Hockley/Rochford down to the Tescos roundabout. Basically just doing some test runs in the middle of the night, setting up my ignition timing, nitrous flow rates...
yeah it was a bit of a bang. Ive changed my mind about the way forward anyway. If the engine is in real bad shape (it was a *big* bang) once they get the head off and have a look, the plan is:
1.8 HP Stage 2 head with Piper 270s swapped for wilder 285 duration road/rally cams
2.0 F7R bottom...
Yeah I was in a big hurry, went to 3 different fast fit places to get those wheels of mine balanced and rebalanced. Only at the 4th did they realise that the screw head was sticking out.

So if Im shopping around for a pair of wilder cams to go in instead of the 270s, can I now start looking at cams intended for a Williams/Megane F7R lump rather than a 1.8, even though Im still using the 1.8 head? Probably sounds stupid, but I dont know!
Yeah I had thought about that, the valves not closing perfectly...I suppose we wont know until the heads off. Well I think if its bottom end damage Ill be going 2.0 with lairy cams. Whether thatll be enough to hold off yours for next year, who knows? you still thinking of throttle bodies as a...
Wongys still got his, he keeps dreaming about something Jap and turbocharged for next year. Leighs just returned from the dead after breaking his leg and going mysteriously quiet for a couple of months. Mines just blown up on the rollers at BB so its gonna have to be taken apart to see what the...
err ok...in the last year
Williams gearbox
Williams clutch
both wishbones
n/s driveshaft
sump
18" rims
power steering pump
two sets of brake pads
another decat pipe
plugs
all fluids replaced at least once
10-20 litres of Mobil 1
radiator pipe
carbon airbox

Well Ive always been pleased with mine, they feel a lot better when youre really cooking the brakes. And if youre going to all the trouble of overhauling the system anyway, why not do the braided lines? At least youll never have to replace them again.
Hmmm some great advice there, I knew I could count on you lot! So heres another one for you - am I greatly mistaken or are the Piper 270 cams for a 16v pretty much the same as the standard Willy cams? And then the Piper 270s for the Willy are like the 285s for the 16v?
So at the moment then...
That first vid reminds me of the Blair Witch Project and the second one is even more bizarre, especially the subliminal image of someone having a pint for a split second at the end! Weird stuff, but yeah that Sierra does flame quite nicely.
Adam - have you had flames out of yours yet? Plenty I...
Yeah I think the little extra your valver has *could* :confused:be something to do with it Ben! The 106 GTi runs out of legs once you start to really get going but off the mark Id still say a standard valver would have trouble overhauling one, real trouble. But theyre a nice car to race, handle...

hehe Mat yeah lets hope he doesnt notice!
Im looking at it as a golden opportunity to go for 2.0 power. Actually while youre here Mat, can you have a look over at the mods forum and see my post on that old thread about 2.0 conversions, maybe you can add your words of wisdom?
Sorry to resurrect this thread again (maybe we should put together a definitive Cliosport FAQ on this engine swap?) but Ive gone from being merely interested in the 2.0 swap, to thinking it could be happening to my valver in the next week or so. Thats cos my engine could be well and truly blown...

Oh yeah, it still runs, but as soon as you start it up, clouds of steam start pouring out of the bottom end... the nitrous oxide is fine, Ive used it on the road no problem.
What I really need to know is why backfires happen, just in general. Pops and bangs from the exhaust I can understand...
Well Im no expert on steering, but theres not a lot you can do apart from start taking it to bits. Its seems almost certain that youve got a big leak somewhere. And even if its not leaking so much now, thats only cos youve lost most of your fluid already. It cant do any harm to take it all apart...
