Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Well, il be using a grinder to cut a section out ;)
Then fab a plate to re-fit out of some 3mm sheet, so the radiator mounting is the full width instead of stopping 7/8ths of the way across like it does standard. With it all the same level all the way...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
I remembered earlier ive got a spare that came off the blue valver (well I hope I kept it)...
If thats the case there is a few modifications I want to make to it regarding radiator mounting which ive been meaning to do for ages. Then il whip my current one...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
I think you can still get them yeah, doubt it will be cheap mind.
Id just personally get a good condition one, sandblast/dip it then get it powdercoated, comes up like new for a fraction of the cost...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Unsure, I personally think the subframes bent, but there is no way of checking to be honest....
The wishbone has moved to a different position than it was for the past few months, so something must have changed geometry wise, as the steering is still...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Il completely take it off the road for goot when I find/get a unit to store the car in, as I cant store it at home. Wont be insured or taxed ever again probably, few other bits I can do related to wiring and stuff then and not have to worry about it being...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Yeah, true.
When I slid last night, i hit that side of the car HARD, but I have no idea what damage it caused. I know the sleeves had moved slightly before in the past, but the bush has never moved and created a gap at the back like it has now.
I rekon...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Just a bit of an addition.....this is how they were before fitted...
The polybushes and sleeves were harder to get in than getting the standard renault bushes and sleeves out, they were a MEGA tight fit.
BUT, the question is, why have the arms moved on...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Yeah, had a quick look this evening after I got in.
Basically started by checking if there was any play with the car jacked up, wheel still on. Did one side at a time, nothing at all that wasnt normal.
So anyway, got the wheels off one side at a time...
I found if you set the dogbone to its shortest the downpipe seems to fit better....well, if your using a 172 donor cat to make the downpipe.......yours may be slightly different Matteh.....I found standard length gave alot of knocking
i dont have a matrix nope.......i had a custom pipe so i didnt have to loop them, it just has a 180* bend in it and fits without having to loop them together
can just about see it under the thermostat housing, along the top of the box and down the front of the block...
but yeh, join them...
I paid 60 quid to get my williams wheels blasted and powdercoated, £15/wheel, Bloooor on here has a mate that can do it.
Got the tyres off, dropped them off, few days later done and picked up (based in stockport) then tyres back on. done.
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Replaced both ball joints few weeks ago, tightened everything mega tight the other day too :( Will see when I can be arsed to have a look in the dry lol.
Yeah, ive been thinking about it for months to be honest. My uncle has a trailer, so that isnt an...
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
Well, thought I had fixed the knocking and the dodgy steering....
...but after tonight's events on the rivington meet, not to mention nearly writing the car off a few times, ive ended up damaging something related to the steering/suspension on the drivers...
I dont care what peoples opinions are anyway, lol. been there, done that, moved on.
The Mk2 was for looks as it was a 1.2, now ive built the hybrid ive set it up to how i feel its best for what its meant for, the track...lowness dosent even come into it ;)
sounds like the belts loose or something major failed on the dephaser!.....sounds too 'tappy' to be bottom end or anything....
whats the oil level like?
Re: Mk1 172 Hybrid Track Car Project
You going to be there again? What day?
I dont have an RSTuner anymore so hopefully you wont need any diag this time!
I had a 'decat' on my prospeed on the Mk2...
Mine was 100% fine, the only reason it can not run properly is if you have a dodgy lambda sensor. The cat is only a filter, and if the lambda sensor after the cat is getting a bad reading, the ecu may adjust itself slightly causing it to run...
if it connects and you can view fault codes, the programming history should also show at the top of the window, which would mean you can see if its been re-mapped before.
