I don't think i've ever heard of one giving up TBH. Usually suffer damage from broken cambelts/dephasers.

Well my 172 would very very rarely get to 250miles before red light came on, can get to 310 in the 182.

You know about the button the end of the window wiper stalk right? Work it out manually if you want the most accurate MPG, ABout 300miles a tank(full till red light) is about average i'd say.
