Brake Question:
yes, upgraded front pads/fluid change will help lots (rear pads only needed if they're worn... they do naff all)
Damper Question:
Eibach Sportlines will be fine with standard dampers.
they'll be quite easy on the 1.4 with dual optics, air conditioning could get in the way on the left...
having a bloody big F4R under the bonnet makes changing ANY bulb on the 172s a bit tricky however...
im sorry i couldnt help any more mate... they should just lever out with a screwdriver.

do the pads line up with the discs? the whole of the pads braking surface should have contact with the disc when braking.
No, they dont "slide across" with age... but they do have auto pad wear adjustment.

Just been to do some shopping and picked up some AG Glass cleaner.
In with the motor accessories aisle, they have 3 or 4 bits from the AG range... how long have they stocked it for? quite handy!
glass cleaner was only £4.89 too, quite cheap i thought.
the whole car's just undergone a 2 hour cleaning programme :approve:

there are clips on the renault ones, but they're quite large... plus the 172 wings are pretty solid so shouldnt have a problem.
have a set of orange bulbs ready... the ones that are in there now are white (as i found out)
