Martin, some are better than others as standard. Mine made 179brake on star performances rolling road. I was happy with that as other people complained of their power being down.

very harsh on anodised aluminium surfaces in the past, destroyed mountain bike bling bits. They've tamed the formula down a bit since then, I use it on my wheels watered down a bit
same springs fit all 172 / 182's and there's no visible difference between a cup'd 182 and non cup.
182 cup suspension is meant to be 3mm lower than non cup but there is a spring height tolerance in the region of +/- 5mm so the 3mm is lost in that.
Sportlines are the way to go.
When I started my job 2.5 years ago one guy asked me how much I'd spent modding my 182 to get it to how it is just now (i.e. standard).
