Think its down to the diff, you'll find if you got both front wheels jacked up and u rotated one clockwise, then the other would turn anti clockwise. But if you try to turn both in the same direction at the same time, then they would lock

Are the jms kit and v6 boxes completely different or are they similar? Just wondering if its worth the extra for the jms kit over a v6 box from a scrappy?

Possibly a leak somewhere? Stick your hand over the end see if its blowing anywhere. The standard 172 exhaust is pretty much silent

mine sounds more like this than it does the first video that was posted... possibly two different faults?

Did yours do it all the time mate or only once the engine had warmed up a bit? Mine sounds fine when the car is completely cold ie its not moved for a few days

its the noise of a thousand pound coins just rattling round inside my engine :( lol mine does sound a lot like that video tho

Lol I'd give anything for 5 degrees right now! I used to get this on my old mondeo and was lead to believe that if the engine stood for a day or two then the lifters would drain, then they would fill back up when you started the engine but they would tap for a second or two then clear...

Its quite bad mate, I wouldn't say it was an injector, sounds quite 'metallic'? Do injectors get louder with age?

Well my 172 is making the dreaded noisy diesel sound. My first thoughts were obviously dephaser pulley but after reading up on here I'm not so sure now. is it possible that a lifter has gone? The annoying 'tick' is there throughout the Rev range, whereas am I right in thinking with the dephaser...

Just about to change the oil on my 172 and wondered should I flush the engine inbetween oils? Also think I got a noisy lifter so is it worth putting some of that sticky lifter treatment stuff in? Cheers peeps

one of the oldest and one of the most unknown...lol still aint had chance to take pics of the car yet tho. loving it at the moment, its just a got a few little bits that need doin and then i'll be completely happy with it
