Would make a Hell of a Modified saloon race car
as for the price tag , i think its relatively well priced for what it is and what your getting - i dont think a 20k impreza could get close to that spec or that quality of build
Couple of Years ago in my first 172 - Own fault for making a Snap decision for a maccies and slipping on some ice - ABS sent the pedal spazzy - and these are the results

Motor - Replace motor
Supply to motor , but if the fuse is ok that means broken wire
Switch - Swap the one out of your car for hers if you have no access to a multimeter to check the supply to it or out of it
Thats a Start
Start with switch , then supply , then motor - cheapest first
Most Dealer/Manufacturer diagnostics is hugely expensive - and They usually have 6 monthly updates sent direct from factory on disc and those discs are then returned/destroyed
And as been said most the Techs dont know how to use it correctly as some of them are a bit backwards
4 wires twisted together in pairs to prevent interference and with an overall resistance of 5ohms. Lots of dealig with it on hgvs
Canbus will be a whole world of difficulty. Nothing to say it cant be done
