How deep does it go? I know Ford have started multiple networks into their cars to stop people from accessing anything outside the stuff that has to be universal.
I have a question for all the VAG experts out there. How similar is the diagnostic equipment across all the group brands? For example, if you buy a VW diagnostic unit (I'm talking pro workshop type stuff), would it work on Audi's and Seats? What about the likes of Porsche and Bentley? Or is it...
I can't say I know anyone that way. Might be worth trying a guy I follow on Instagram though, as he is quite involved in the car scene in the UAE.

My mate did really well in targas in a bog standard 106 Quiksilver. Makes me laugh when people show up for them in fancy cars. My old Escort is used for targa rallies. Total overkill.
Looking forward to seeing how this comes together. In terms of modifying, I probably wouldn't do a lot until you've done an event or two. See what it's shortcomings are and go from there. I'm sure there will be some serious machinery doing road rallies on that side of the country.
I think people eventually got the 1.6 CVH to well north of 300bhp. I seem to remember some claiming 350-odd, but they were serious, serious builds. Top speed record for a 1.6 RS Turbo got to just over 170mph I believe too.
As someone said above, the problem with the Escort was always the...
Without doubt. I used to attend a lot of dealer training for Ford techs and they moaned endlessly about how s**t the cars were, but it's because they are exposed to the problems with them 40 hours a week. They don't notice the thousands of others that are driving about without issue.
That being...
Great days. Think the FRST I drove was about 160bhp. A couple of friends had stage 1 Escorts and they were a riot. I went in Christian Major's S2, which was one of the ones regularly involved in the whole "thrash" thing run by Performance Ford mag. 160+mph in an RS Turbo was an eye opening...
Fiesta was the first RS I drove. Felt like a rocket at the time. Think it was about 2001 and it had the usual remap, exhaust etc.
Both the Escort and Fiesta are definitely flawed, but they're an absolute riot I think.
That's lovely. If it's mine, I think I would have to fit the original amber indicators, but spot on otherwise. Needs a stage 1 fettle too. Wakes them up a lot as I recall.
It wasn't, but I think that was partly down to Ford cocking it up on a management front. Why they let RAS Sport run the cars in 1995 is quite beyond me. The Escort Cosworth won mountains of rallies in both Group N and Group A form, but the WRC team was a bit of a shambles sadly. Still is in a...
I imagine the chassis change was very deliberate, as they wanted to make something more nimble than the Sierra. I guess none of them would feel quick really, especially nowadays. I don't think I'd want any standard Cosworth though. For me, the fun in them was modifying, so it would at least need...
Saw this while I was in the UK but forgot to post it. Can't be many of them left now. Love that it still had the factory WRC sticker in the rear window too:
It could very well go that way sadly. Hopefully we'll be enough of a minority that people won't bother to try and stop it, but who knows, as the car is such a massive part of our lives at the moment. Regardless of what happens, it's going to be an interesting time.
I hope you're right, but it feels like the worm is turning and that there is a growing amount of anti-ICE sentiment. It may not be necessary to ban them outright, but I think there are some noisy folk out there that would take a great deal of pleasure from achieving such an end.
I think that's the thing that scares me about EVs. I don't care if my daily becomes EV, but I still want to be able to enjoy old ICE-powered cars. I worry that it won't be realistic though. People wheel out the, "but people didn't stop riding horses when the car came along" line, but the...
Hahaha, love the fact you signed up and dealt with the comments. Much respect.
Your content isn't my thing, but it's obviously working, as you have about a bazillion followers and I have hardly any 😂
Looks great that. As @gez 172 says, it's in a perfect state to enjoy it without worrying about it, so I'd be inclined to leave the paint and just drive it for a while.
Post some pictures of the car if you can. Seeing it might help us to point some things out.
Are there any brackets inside the car that could be removed if you have removed other things? Is it a 172, or a 182? If it's a 172, you could fit the flat boot floor from a 182 (or just a flat piece of...
You've done most of it by the sounds of it! I can think of a few things:
- Proper bucket seats instead of the OEM 197 ones (that's probably the biggest single saving I can think of)
- You could go lexan in the rear side windows and rear screen, but keep the glass in the doors if you still want...
You've probably done more mods in a single week than a lot of people do in their whole period of ownership 😂
Monaco looks really good with the white 2118s (y)
Will be interesting to see how you get on with this. Look forward to the YT videos, as no doubt you'll go more in-depth than anyone else.
Don't think I could ever get past the looks though.
