Bearing in mind 400F = 204C .. that's 4.6 inches over 100ft .. your exhaust is what, 15-20 ft .. I'd say you'll easily see an inch. The first 1/3 might be 600F and the last half 200F, so averages out at 400....

Depends entirely what you want to shoot and how much money you have. You can get 18-300 lenses that 'do everything' (but, please don't ;) ) or 10-20 or 100-400.....
