My whole dash went mental. Temp gauge was reading backwards, rev gauge was erratic, Speedo stopped working etc.

My Ph1 dials (in a 182 converted Mk1) did this and it was my gearbox earth strap. It actually did it again this morning I need to buy a new one. but I undo it, quick flash with a wire brush and back in and it’s golden. Worth a shot. I do have a spare set of Ph1 clocks if you want to try them?

You say it’s worse in the boot, Have you tried taking out the boot mat and all the trims? Put them all in the garage and if the smell goes, there’s your culprit?

For the next 5 days, soak it top and bottom with penetrating fluid every morning and every night. if you can, get some heat on it. then use a stud extractor.

If he was ‘that’ type of person, he’s better off selling it to someone he knows for a reasonable amount. if he advertises the fact that “Trophy number Xxx needs an engine” it will severely impact future sales prices.

Just keep cutting until you get to clean metal all round. That’s the only correct repair.

There’s an 06 in Petrol blue, I’ve seen an 06 in LY too. I wouldn’t say that ‘rare’ to be honest. They were still making the campus and campus sport until late 07 / early 08.

1*2’s are great out of the box but you need to remember, they’re 15+ years old now and most will need a complete suspension refresh. whatever you buy, buy it based on the condition and the service history. I’d much rather a 150,000 mile well maintained car than a 50k car that’s just had an oil...
