When i drive to work, i never usually hammer it. I go into 5th a lot at 30mph..It only puts strain on the engine if you let it drop to 25mph (ish)... If i see heavy traffic ahead, i usually pull it out of gear, and roll up to the lights or traffic. I'm seeing about 35.3 mpg at the moment...

1st imo is the worst gear, unless a hot summer dry day! The 182 does need a 6th gear, its just to noisey in 5th. Its done on purpose though, sitting at 85 in 5th doing 4.5k revs, so if you floor it, 100 will fly by without too much hassle! Tyson.
