Some of the problem these days is the cheapness of the car. If you bought a ph1 172 brand new for £17k, then the price of cams is not that bad. Now you can pay less than a grand for a ph1 and the price of the cams is the same.

Have a search for the yanoo fast road shifter. I've got one and it's made the world of difference. Its an extra long gearstick, with shorter shift pin, and then I cut some off the linkage as well so the stick is angled towards the driver. Here's the link to yanoo's site...

There is no reverse cable. You just pull the collar up

Have a look in the group buy section on the PMS short shifter thread. There is a photo instruction manual in that thread that will show you everything you need to know. It's easy enough once the exhaust is out of the way. I managed to get it out just by dropping the exhaust a bit

I have ph2 rear lights on mine which I prefer. But every now and then I think about putting some originals back on. The dashboard and steering wheels are the worst part of the ph1 if you ask me
