2 (imo think the family car will be more of a priority, since you wont have the 197 any more id say get the 172, saving up for a v6 leaves you sharing a car which can be inconvenient)

does make a difference, if he was on his own then insuring his 1.6 will be 2k+ with his dads discount itl b 1k something. . .for a 172 he probably wont get a quote. . .too young/inexperienced

this is allowed with direct line if: he is 2nd driver on his dads policy, also he can build up his own ncb, if he crashes his dad is ncb is affected not his.

better off waiting till your 20 at least you would have some exp under your belt, that insurance company's recognise i.e. license for x years and ncb, its not like you have a 1.2 and need that extra bit of power. . .dont know who would insure you at that age though, im 19 and its either 2k+ or...
