The idea of a catch tank is to catch oil, it dosnt go back into the engine it stays in the tank, the breather allows air to vent out to stop pressure building
If you get a proper cacked on one (when you come home from work and its been in the sun 7 hours) I find if you half boil a kettle and pour it on leaving a good 30+secs each pour helps break it down
Renault install maps that have safe limits built in, basically for tolerances in fuel quality altitude etc, also by having it mapped you can set the limiter higher as most engines can rev higher but just limited to increase its life span.
Im sure a saxo engine was bench tested to 12,000rpm
