Re: My new project - 106 GTI
Cheers :)
I agree 98% of the time but sometimes they can be a pain in the arse. However I have enjoyed working on this and always wanted a project. I can't wait to get out and use it in anger in April now.
Going to be sitting my BARS test later in year as well...
Re: 'Cub's Trackday Flamer - Cage etc'
Does this weekend actually involve me getting my hands dirty? You didn't put that in the message :P
I will happily lend a hand if one is needed or just eat food and drink a few beers providing my car makes it to yours :/

This one was for sale a few weeks back but has now been split. He did however want £7.5k for it! I am not sure what a turbo'd 172 goes for?
I think its crazy money, but still an impressive build if...
Re: My new project - 106 GTI
I will have a browse, there was one for sale on either Rallye register or 106 owners a few weeks back but by the looks of it they have put them back to standard or broken them down :(
They make good power with a turbo some people are running 250+ Bhp :/
Sounds like you have it in hand.. worst case just use some Block or brick to pack it out and fill the gaps with cement.. your good at that sort of thing aren't you? ;)
Well I might be coming over Oli's on Saturday so I may seen you then.. shame your not taking the 172.
Re: My new project - 106 GTI
Cheers.
Yea I am not fussing to much, I just want to get it setup correctly and get out and use it. The engine in the car currently is nice and strong and pull really well, I will fit cams along with TB's at the end of the year.
I am going to cut all of my boot...
Re: My new project - 106 GTI
Quick update..
I finally got to roadtest the car last night, it raised a few small issues, one being a very strange noise when under load or revving the car and a small fuel leak in the car, apart from that the car felt great. I need to adjust the new rear shocks...
Oh ok, everyday is a school day! the only reason I thought of doing it as a few people I know have sprint cars do the same.
I am right in thinking its a pain in the arse to remove ?
Car looks great dude!
I often wonder if I should bother removing the power steering from mine, but it makes it easier when driving on the road. I am just going to fit a switch to the relay and have an on/off on the dash for it. Then maybe further down the line look at a quickrack.
Awesome shots dude, I need to go back up to London and take some more photos.
Only crit, I would of panned round abit more on the first one and included the tower on the left hand side of Westminster.
the fitting on the side of the seats is a standard fitting across all seats, give them a try I don't see why they wouldn't work.
Have you managed to sort the issue with the sub frames or do you still need to sort it?
Re: My new project - 106 GTI
small update..
On Thursday I started work on getting the nearside rear caliper sorted as it was sticking, I had a feeling it wasn't going to be a fun job and it sooned ended in me calling the car a C**t and going home! I spent about an hour getting the brake...
That looks like a monster.. a friend of mine built a yellow one at work with a k20 in it for a customer, however that was only around 300bhp turbo'd and that was batshit scary. I can't imagine what 520bhp must feel like.
The interior is stunning.. exterior isn't bad.. I guess you don't look at the mantelpiece when you poke the fire. I think its a shape that will grow on you over time, I look forward to seeing on in the flesh.
Cheers guys! I applied the same processing that I apply to my wedding photos and tweaked it a little. I will get a few more posted up later in General auto media thread. :)
