is there a proper solution rather than wiggle the wires? have tried this but no joy

my other half got a little sony cyber shot digita camera for xmas. it come with a 8gb card. when you put it in the camera it came up with a format error and this wouldnt clear when formatting. so got a brand new sony 2gb memory stick pro duo card. which seemed to work fine, went on holiday...
