I get the same noise mate. Can be replaced, think its around £20. I haven't replaced it as i drive everywhere with the windows down, and forget about it lol.

I have the gold ones also. I get like a twanging noise when turning the wheel after the car's been sitting for a while. But it does not happen when im driving, only when im first turning the wheel when i pull away from the car being parked for a while.
