All 172s with air con and every 182 alternator will fit, they're all the 110 amp version
only one that won't is the 172 Cup as that was 75 amp and had different mounting points.
Snap on look better for longer because the people who buy it are usually the ones in the workshop that polish everything before it goes back in the box and only get 4 hours work done in a 10 hour day,

Yeah you'll hear it rattling on idle from the gearbox end, the engines can sound a bit rattily from the timing belt end and is just the characteristic of the engine

Some issues with low pressure egr coolers blocking up which cause a DPF efficiency code they also fracture and leak coolant internally into the exhaust,
on the traverse engines they're easy to replace but on the longitudinal engine in the A4, A6...
I made a solid stainless wishbone ( no bushes ) for the hillclimb car and that sorted it, but don't use it on the road as the vibrations in the cabin were mental.
If you live in America they're probably better, as Napa's ( US version of Andrew Page ) warranty is unbelievable, if you break something you ring them up and they just send a replacement out with your parts order the same day.
