    ARP rod bolts upgrade

Scope creep is a great term, and very appropriate. Annoyingly my fabrication skills leave a lot to be desired, so may reach out to PMS and see if they'll sell me just the custom made bit, unfortunately if not I will just have to buy the whole kit. Happy to go at my sump with a grinder at...

    Ph1 revival

I think you actually posted on my other tread @Mertin re ARP bolts. I initially was going to leave the bottom end alone but have decided now that I am going to drop the sump and replace the bolts. Potentially the oil pump at the same time as this appears to help the low oil pressure issue...

    ARP rod bolts upgrade

Looks like the PMS kit has an extra little part to it. Does this mean you can't just order the pump from Renault? The cost difference between that and the PMS part is significant.

    ARP rod bolts upgrade

Interesting, do you have a part number or a model that it's from?

    ARP rod bolts upgrade

Ok sounds good, I will have an inspect of the bearings. To be honest opening up the block is all a bit new to me hence the questions, but it sounds like it should be straight forward enough. What is the bigger diesel pump? A worthwhile upgrade?

    ARP rod bolts upgrade

Exactly what I wanted to hear. Is it advisable to change the rod bearing for good measure? There was nothing noticeably wrong with them last time the engine ran... 13 years ago

    ARP rod bolts upgrade

I'm pretty sure im going to drop the sump on my track build but I've already put the head back on so cant disassemble the block completely. There is also nothing wrong with the block or bottom end bearings (i dont think) which is why i initially didnt plan on openning it up at all. But if the...

    Sump bolts

I gave it a tap but it still just popped off, I noticed though once you have the flywheel off you get a bit better access so will try again at some point. Failing that I will have to get creative, might need a new sump... Lol this! They ask stupid money for an annoying fastener! Screw that! I'm...

    Sump bolts

Insert joke about the French. I will measure them next time I'm at the vehicle unless someone else on here knows the exact spec.

    Sump bolts

Has anyone replaced their sump bolts with regular cap heads to get rid of the nasty inverted torx bits? I want to drop my sump and one of the hardest to get to is already rounded with a couple of others looking worse for wear. I'd just replace them with standard cap heads if possible, they...

    Ph1 revival

Hmm, so I appear to have made the mistake of following the video by James Stone as a guide... Not the first person on this forum to do this it would appear. I've used the silicone he used in the vid SI5890. Now it would seem I'm in the difficult position of deciding if i scrape it off and start...

    Ph1 revival

So, its been a while since I posted hasn't it! I had a nice timing plan for the build set out with the engine being back in the car before winter. Got to ordering all the parts to make that happen, then... CatCams.... Placed my order through in October with plenty of time and sunlight and nice...

    What is this?

Oh amazing, thanks for the quick replies. I have these pulleys to go in too so I could utilise these. But how does that work with timing the engine up? If you use the upgraded crank pulley with the keyway in it you have effectively removed all of the float. Is it still possible to time up with...

    What is this?

I'm hoping a vague title will increase traffic out of pure curiosity. Had some cams delivered from catcams today (after waiting nearly 12, weeks until winter 😤) Both the cams had this little pin thing in the packaging. Does anyone know what it is for?

    Subframe Braces

so close to the subframe and floorpan? I'd be interested to see the impact. I'll be honest, im rebuilding all of the car and not actually sure where i put these, and trying to work out if i am going to buy more.

    Subframe Braces

Does anyone just remove these and run without? These things: You dont have these on the MK1s, not really sure what they do, maybe something to do with crash? This would be on a track car/weekend toy.

172 Track Car Engine rebuild tips

I'm planning on using a stock block for now. Perhaps I will just keep my eye out for a replacement as early as possible and go forged when it (enevetably) goes pop.

172 Track Car Engine rebuild tips

How common is this problem and what is the consensus on the root cause? I am following a similar path but with ITBs as well, hoping for ~210, worried I'm going to throw a rod out the casing on my first trackday.

Behind? There is (what i think is) the airbag module in front of the shifter, bolted to the floor, but thats long gone. Im pretty sure there is another computer behind the dash somewhere near the fuse box. Maybe its in here. Will stick the key in next week and see what the light does.

172 cup, what I wanted to do 20 years ago

W744WTR! i had a theory a while back that these were some of the first vehicles produced for the UK. You see a lot of W7**WTR in press pictures etc. Mine is W748WTR - so probably came over in the same batch! Love the car though, i was so torn between 2118s and TD1.2s. Went for the latter in...

    Ph1 revival

Oh thats interesting, i will clean up my old plugs and reuse them to begin with. I am really not sure what map is on the gen90 I have. It is second hand from a 182 but i got the ITB kit inc injectors all at once so maybe what is on there will at least fire up. Thinking about it, now that ive...

    Ph1 revival

I think my one tip would be to remove the pivot bolt on each side rather than removing the bracket from the body. This way you can avoid the risk of the captive nut just spinning. Once that happens it becomes a massive headache. Downside of that is you need ot drop the fuel tank a little one...

Ph1 to Ph2 Throttle Position Sensor Conversion

Digging up again because I now have said kit and am trying to get my head around the wiring. Kit you mention in another thread that pin65 goes to pin41 for the shift light, but that's not mentioned here on any of the sheets northloop showed. Does the shift light work on yours? Also the TPS...

Cams & Injectors - The same old question

Wow, wasnt expecting an answer so fast - Thanks. Well while i have your attention - Does the VVT kick in from 1600RPM all teh way to redline? Adding 16degree (advance or r****d?). How would the above be adjusted to compensate running without VVT? I thought the aim was to r****d the inlet so at...

Cams & Injectors - The same old question

Digging up an old thread - can someone remind me exaclty what the cam angle changes are for group N? i thought it was 9degree (r****d?) on the exhaust, anything on the inlet? has anyone experimented with group-N timing with 421 cams? I guess your limiting factor is going to be when you risk...
