The cover holds the cams in, the cams are under tension from the belt, the pulleys need to come off to remove the cover etc etc.

I bet 99% of 1*2s no longer have the lining, nor the undertray anymore

If you're planning on removing the cam cover to reseal it, its a cambelt/pulley off job

If the noise disappears as the revs go past ~1700rpm, then its probably the dephaser that has gone. This is the pulley on the inlet cam. When they wear, they start to rattle. Its a new pulley and cambelt job, so around £600 at a specialist
