There's a cold limiter which should kick in at 6.8k then when up to temperature the rev limit is 7.2k. I think the cold limiter is based on the water temperature so it could be a problem with the coolant temperature sensor or thermostat.

No, it's not just the LSD. The springs, dampers and anti-roll bars are all different. When my R26 has bankrupted me/I buy a house I'll get a cheap 172.

Weird how we have had completely different experiences of moving to Megane's. I guess part of it is the difference between the 225 and R26. I do agree though that for the money it's hard to beat a 172 :)
